What is Industrial Salt?

Industrial salt is a salt that is less pure than table salt. The main difference between this type of salt and edible salt in lower purity is that it is not refined and the industrial type is not iodized. The purity of table salt is ۹۹%. Due to the refining of table salt, this type of salt does not cause kidney stones and other similar problems.
There are many uses for industrial salt. Industrial and mineral salts are used in industries such as water and wastewater treatment, tanning, acidification, sanitary and detergent production, and many other industries.
Iran has many salt mines and is one of the twenty producers of mineral salts in the world. However, due to the high cost of the crude salt refining process, some of the salt extracted from the salt mines and lakes enters the food market in unrefined form (as crude industrial salt) as edible salt. Semnan, Qom and Fars provinces are among the largest producers of industrial and mineral salt in the country.

Applications of industrial salt
Industrial salt has various applications and uses in industry, some of its uses are:

Types of industrial salt
It is produced and used in different types and grades. Some of the most important types of industrial and mineral salts are: sugar salt, fishery salt, pea salt, oyster salt, powder salt, road salt and drilling salt.
In the following, some of its different types will be examined.

۱- Shell salt ۱۲۰ and ۱۳۰: This type of salt is the smallest size of granulated salt, before powdered salt or soft industrial salt. Crystals of this type of salt have a lot of radiance and clarity; Hence it is called oyster salt. Oyster salt is very similar to refined salt in terms of grain size.
۲ - Sugar salt ۱۱۰ or the same as drilling salt: This type of salt, which is known due to the high similarity of its grain size to sugar grains to sugar salt, is one of the most widely used industrial salt grains. Due to the grain size of this type, it is also called mesh ۱۱۰. Among the important applications of this salt are used in drilling mud, the process of salting meat, especially pork in Georgia, and its use in Liqvan cheese, etc.
۳ - ۱۰۰ mesh: The grains and crystals of this type of salt are slightly larger than sugar grains (almost twice).
۴ - Mesh ۹۰: The size of granules of this type includes seeds slightly smaller than chickpea seeds. Due to the almost uniform size of the grains, this type is called ۹۰ mesh.
۵ - Fishery salt: After entering the crushing machine, large pieces of salt rock are broken and crushed salt with a size of ۵ to ۱۰ mm is produced. Fish salt grains are larger than a pea and smaller than a walnut, which is almost the largest grain size. The reason for naming fishery salt is the main use of this granulation in the fisheries industry as well as disinfection. Of course, this is just one of the uses of fishery salt. Other uses of this type of salt are in water hardening, reduction of inactive resins, very precise grinding of small parts, leather and tanning industry, cheese making and many other industries.
۶- Industrial powder salt (soft industrial salt): Finally, the last category of unrefined industrial salts in terms of grain size is powdered salt. Due to its many industrial uses, this type is also called industrial soft salt. The main use of this type of salt is in the production of acid and grain and poultry and poultry inputs.
